Project Horse Empowerment Center Meet The Herd

Our non-riding approach puts clients and horses on equal footing where horse and human work as partners in healing. Safety is a top priority, so our clients can comfortably explore new thoughts and ideas while recognizing patterns and reactions that may no longer be productive. Through developing connections with our horses, and guided by our experienced facilitating team, clients take away lessons they can apply to “life outside the paddock’.

Our Core Principles

  • Treat each client, and each horse, as a unique individual with specific needs

  • Offer a safe peaceful space where growth and healing may occur

  • Provide opportunities for clients to experience true partnership with our horses

  • Create a community of mutual healing, benefit, respect and compassion

Why horses?

The calming presence of horses, coupled with their keen ability to sense and respond to human emotion and intention, provides an ideal environment for self-discovery, healing and personal growth.

Project Horse is dedicated to improving the quality of life for humans, and for horses, creating a unique community of mutual healing and benefit.

Wellness Programs

Horses are very effective coaches and teachers, helping facilitate personal growth and change in a fun, engaging way. Our programs, tailored to specific ages, cover a variety of themes such as:

  • mindfulness
  • parenting support
  • summer camps and after school programs for kids and teens
  • navigating transitions
  • teamwork & leadership
  • customized programs for clinicians and counselors

Meet Our Horses

Project Horse is privileged to have an exceptional herd of friendly, gentle and unique horses

Every horse has his or her own individual story of facing tough circumstances, then overcoming challenges to go on to lead healthy, happy and productive lives. These horses make outstanding role models for participants in all of our programs. Just like human beings, each member of the herd is unique and has a distinct personality. All of these horses have much to teach us about safety, trust, relationships and perseverance.

Successfully recovered from an injury that ended her high level eventing career, Iggy is passionate and proud with a larger-than-life personality.

Killian, like many people, has endured a lot of challenges and setbacks in his young life. He was been rescued from an auction, and then his life saved after an almost fatal injury.

Killian now enjoys life at Project Horse, and is a therapy favorite here. He is also well-loved by his owner, one of our equine specialists and a long-time volunteer.

It wasn't all fun and games for Gracie before she arrived at Project Horse in 2016. Gracie bounced around before eventually finding her forever home. Adopted by one of our therapists, Gracie is one lucky gal (and seems to know this). Despite her past, Gracie is willing to trust, and she is truly accepting of all.

With his sassy yet loving attitude, and his wild thick mane, Jack is sometimes fondly referred to as "Jack Bon Jovi".

This small but mighty guy happens to be the anchor of our Mobile Minis Team, and honestly, he is confident enough to lead the entire herd!

When Penny was rescued from an auction house, her rescuers thought they were getting just one horse, but they were in for a surprise.

Penny has developed into a very fine little therapy horse over the past few years. She seems most draw to trauma survivors.
