Project Horse Empowerment Center Meet The Herd

Meet Our Horses

Project Horse is privileged to have an exceptional herd of friendly, gentle and unique horses

Every horse has his or her own individual story of facing tough circumstances, then overcoming challenges to go on to lead healthy, happy and productive lives. These horses make outstanding role models for participants in all of our programs. Just like human beings, each member of the herd is unique and has a distinct personality. All of these horses have much to teach us about safety, trust, relationships and perseverance.

Killian, like many people, has endured a lot of challenges and setbacks in his young life. He was been rescued from an auction, and then his life saved after an almost fatal injury.

Killian now enjoys life at Project Horse, and is a therapy favorite here. He is also well-loved by his owner, one of our equine specialists and a long-time volunteer.

It wasn't all fun and games for Gracie before she arrived at Project Horse in 2016. Gracie bounced around before eventually finding her forever home. Gracie is FREE LEASED to us by one of our treasured partners, Dominion Equine Rescue. Gracie is one lucky gal (and seems to know this). Despite her past, Gracie is willing to trust, and she is truly accepting of all.

A retired fox hunter, Ben came to Project Horse in Fall 2021. While we are still learning about who Ben is and what he has experienced in his life, he has shown us his warmth and compassion. He connects with most everyone he meets and is eager to engage in our work.
As a senior member of the herd, Ben adds additional wisdom to the Project Horse team. He is patient and shows that through his stillness when asked to hold space for those who are struggling.
Ben is an Quarter Horse cross and was born in 1996. Ben's birthday is January 1.

With his sassy yet loving attitude, and his wild thick mane, Jack is sometimes fondly referred to as "Jack Bon Jovi".

This small but mighty guy happens to be the anchor of our Mobile Minis Team, and honestly, he is confident enough to lead the entire herd!

When Penny was rescued from an auction house, her rescuers thought they were getting just one horse, but they were in for a surprise.

Penny has developed into a very fine little therapy horse over the past few years. She seems most draw to trauma survivors.
