Community Service Awards
The Arc of Loudoun on Paxton Campus has established two awards for community members, outside of the Paxton community, who go above and beyond in their lives to support people with disabilities live “A Life Like Yours”.
Beth Mills Service Award
Established in 2015, the Beth Mills Service Award was created to honor those people who, not because of their job or because of their family, voluntarily take on the responsibility to be of service to a person or people with disabilities. The recipient of the Beth Mills Service Award is known for going ABOVE AND BEYOND to share care, concern, time, and attention to help a person with a disability achieve “A Life Like Yours”. For Beth, that meant opening her home to a young woman with a disability and treating her like a member of her family for many years. Because of that relationship, Beth became involved with The Arc and for over 20 years on the Board of Directors, worked as a tireless advocate to help others with disabilities and their families have a better quality of life. This award honors those who choose to walk this path in tireless service to help better the lives of people with disabilities.
Rick Berry Professional of the Year Award
Established in 2016, the Rick Berry Professional of the Year Award was created in honor of Rick Berry, a dedicated professional who began his career as a teacher and ended as a Special Education Supervisor with Loudoun County Public Schools. During that time, he also served over 15 years on the Board of Directors for The Arc of Loudoun, volunteering ABOVE AND BEYOND his professional duties to better the lives of children in the public school, as well as all people with disabilities with his tireless efforts with The Arc of Loudoun. The recipient of this award works with people with disabilities as a teacher, case manager, job coach, or in any other professional capacity, but goes beyond those responsibilities to help a person achieve “A Life Like Yours.”
